Trending Now: LACE

Lace pieces have slowly been creeping into the style sphere, from hints of lace peering out from under a  beautiful jumper to sexy sheer pieces that could give Rihanna's wardrobe a run for her money. You can opt for a lace skirt (mini or midi) for a lovely lady-like look, or maybe edge it up a little a la Christine Centenera with leather pants. Oh, and it is totally acceptable to go OTT with this timeless trend by wearing lace head to toe, and sheer (just cover up your privates! Or not?).

Black and white is the classic lace go-to and will never go out of style, but if monochrome just isn't your thing, you're in luck, because stunning lace is popping up in pastel pinks and blues and rich reds and plums. Should you wash your jeans?

It’s that age old denim debate, should you or should you not wash your jeans. Well Levi Strauss CEO Chip Bergh has cleared that up for us. According to Bergh, you should never wash your jeans.

Instead of washing your jeans, Bergh suggests spot cleaning with a sponge or toothbrush and air drying your denim.

Red Carpet Inspiration: Wedding Gown Silhouettes

Choosing the wedding dress of your dreams should be just that, a dream, but it can get overwhelming. Before you go searching for the perfect dress two important things to remember are to be open-minded about the style that you want, and to have some sort of understanding of the different silhouettes that you are going to come across, whether in a store or on Pinterest. The celebrity red carpet is the perfect place to start looking at different silhouettes and styles that you think you might like. So we have done the hard work for you and have found beautiful red carpet dresses in the most popular bridal gown silhouettes.

1. Ball gown
The ball gown is the quintessential fairy-tale dress, the one you most probably dreamed of as a little girl, especially if you watched Disney movies. The ball gown flares out from the waist with a full skirt.

2. A-line
One of the most popular and flattering styles, A-line dresses are fitted at the bust and flare out to the ground to form a capital A shape, hence the name.

3. Modified A-line
Similar to the A-line, the 'modified' comes in as the skirt is fitted more closely to the body and gradually flares to the ground from under the hip to form the capital A shape.

4. Mermaid
Just like a mermaid's tail, a mermaid silhouette is fitted close to the body until it flares out just below the knees.

5. Trumpet (Fit & Flare)
Similar to the mermaid in shape, however the trumpet flares out a bit higher, anywhere from under the hips to mid-thigh.

6. Tea
A pretty silhouette that falls mid-calf, just like a midi skirt.

7. Mini
The mini is perfect if you are after something non-traditional and want to show off your legs.

8. Sheath
A sheath silhouette simply falls straight down the body, not fitted.

It's important to remember that not every dress that you come across will fit perfectly into one of the above silhouette categories, but what really matters is that you love how it looks and you love how you look in it.

BIRKENSTOCKS: Stylish or daggy?

Birkenstocks. The 'crocs' of sandal world? I hesitated writing this post as I was sure that as soon as I admitted how I felt about the birkenstock, I'd see a pair with an outfit I really like and end up buying them. But no, that won't happen (I hope not anyway). I get that relaxed, male-style dressing is popular and looks great, but the daggy-dad shoe? Fashionista's including the Olsen Twins and Alexa Chung have been seen wearing them, and so many international and Australian bloggers are loving the trend. There's just so many other shoes I'd prefer over the birkenstocks. Although the street style pics below are making me like them a tad bit more.

The Wardrobe Essentials Style Challenge

As a long time reader of blogs and fashion mags, I am always coming across articles about your 'wardrobe essentials'; what pieces every woman needs in her closet and how they will never go out of style. Each author promises us fashion-fiends how to achieve the perfect style without spending our hard earned cash on passing trends. I'm not being cynical about these articles, trust me, I find them useful and have even contemplated writing a similar article myself, but I want to see if trying to work these essentials into my daily outfits really does make me dress more stylish and timeless and spend less cash.

From lots of reading of articles I have decided that the essentials are a:

1. Black blazer
2. Biker style (faux) leather jacket
3. Black pencil skirt
4. Striped tee
5. Trench coat
6. Little Black Dress
7. White collared shirt
8. Plain white tee
9. Black pants
10. Basic black heels

The Rules:

I have to incorporate at least one of the essentials into my outfits at least 4/7 days of the week. Thats enough, right?

The Results:
The point of the challenge is to see if working these essential items into my wardrobe more often means I spend less on passing trends and dress more stylish and timeless.
 

I already have the blazer, pencil skirt, striped tee, trench, LBD and black heels, which means I need to go hopping for the biker, white collared shirt (I have already been looking everywhere for the perfect one!), white tee (I have, but need a new one) and black pants.

A/W Trend: THE PASTEL BOYFRIEND COAT

Relaxed 'boyfriend' dressing has been taking over our style repertoire for a while now; white button-down shirts, ripped and baggy jeans, bulky watches and loose blazers are just a few of the masculine-style items us girls love to shop. Boyfriend dressing is continuing into this Winter with the onslaught of boyfriend style coats we have been seeing on style bloggers and celebrities, it's no wonder they have been popping up in almost every store. Layering is a must in Autumn and Winter, and the boyfriend coat is perfect for this due to it's loose nature, but avoid being lost in the fabric by going a size smaller than you usually would if needed. Giuliana Rancic: Style Tips and Favourite Aussie Designers

Superstar TV host, down to Earth fashionista and Westfield Style Ambassador Giuliana Rancic made her Sydney appearance today and let us in on her style secrets and how to be a "true fashionista". 

Giuliana's famous line from the many  Hollywood red carpets she has hosted is "who are you wearing?" So who was Giuliana wearing? Dressed by Willow, she wore an all black ensemble featuring sheer pieces ad a deconstructed jacket. 

Giuliana loves Australian designers because "they play and take risks with colours and designs". As well as Willow, her other favourite Aussie designers are Ginger and Smart, Cue, Zimmerman, Sass and Bide, Paolo Sebastian and Alex Perry, just to name a few. Giuliana wore Alex Perry to the Grammy Awards this year (pictured below) and said"I've never been on so many best dressed lists". Go Mr. Perry!

This style maven has also been on her fair share of worst dressed lists, but takes it all in her stride, saying that "to be a true fashionista you have to be on worst dressed lists, because it means you're taking chances".
