Healthy Hair Growth - Update

Finally! I am writing the update to my Healthy Hair Growth post from March 2013 (link at the bottom of this post). It is still my most viewed post, and I can understand why. Healthy, shiny locks can brighten up any look, outfit or day. So, let's get into it.

This was my hair when I got the chop
This was it a year later
This is it now... Balayage!

1. No heat - Not blow drying, straightening and curling my hair definitely helped keep split ends at bay and is probably the biggest and best step in keeping hair healthy.

2. Silica - If you read my first Healthy Hair Growth post, you'd know that I started taking silica tablets and then the gel. Silica is a mineral that we have lots of when we are born, but loose as we grow old, causing hair, skin and nails all to weaken. I prefer the tablets over the gel, and really recommend them.

3. Bamboo - Bamboo tea has one of the highest sources of silica, so Bamboo tea is an amazing choice for stocking up on this mineral. The taste isn't so great, but the benefits just outweight that.

4. Conditioning treatment - I have used a few different shampoos since the chop, but have stuck with my Macadamia Oil Deep Repair Mask, and I love it, and so does my hair. I use it every time I wash my hair, and it's always left feeling really soft and healthy. Amazing stuff.

5. Oils - still loving my oils for keeping my hair moisturised and shiny. I use Argan oil after I've towel dried my hairs and after straightening, and if it's ever feeling frizzy or dry between washes. Coconut oil is a blessing from the Hair Gods. Warm it up and apply it all over you hair, massaging it into your scalp and down to your ends. If you can, leave it on over night, if you can't, a little time goes a long way too. I recommend shampooing twice when you wash it out, just to be sure there's no residue left in your hair.

I am really happy with all of the steps I took to make sure my hair grew out healthy and moisturised. Now that I've lightened my hair, I'm going to start taking the silica tablets again, and continue using my Macadamia Oil mask, and oils. And, of course, using minimal heat and lots of heat protectant.

New Yorkers

Before travelling to New York City, I was under the impression that the people there were rude, unfriendly, fast-paced and had no time for tourists like myself. With first hand experience of the city, I can tell you now, that is so not the truth. If we were standing in a street looking up, around and down at our map, i.e the telltale signs our a tourist, New Yorkers would come right up and offer their assistance. Trying to find the downtown subway stop instead of the uptown? They'd tell you where it is and how to get there, without making you feel like a dumby. Even so, in our defence, the uptown stop isn't always directly across from the downtown one. If we wanted a group shot, it was mainly other tourists taking the photo for us, but New Yorkers would offer too.

On the other hand, I had a totally different experience with non-commision earning shop assistants. I can't tell you how many times I left certain chain stores unhappy and majorly p*##%d off because of how rude they are. Come on people, you are working in NEW YORK CITY. Embrace it.

Moral of this blog post, if you're travelling to he Big Apple, keep an open mind about New York locals, most of them are friendlier than you think, and are apart of what makes the city, The City.

Some more of my piccies from the beautiful city...

Post-holiday hum

I'm pretty sure in my last post I promised I would blog whilst I was in America. Obviously, that didn't happen. Truth is, time just got away from me. Especially in New York. We were as bad as some of the locals are said to be, always on the go. Always going from one place to the next. 11 nights in the city just wasn't enough to see and experience everything. The sights, the sounds, the grilled cheese. Oh well, it just means I'll have to go back. What I might do is post a photo diary of each city I visited, for your viewing pleasure (not just mine, I promise).

Till my next post xx

Note to self: stop making blog promises I won't keep.

Market Mayhem

With an American holiday looming and wardrobes over flowing with clothes we couldn't stand to look at anymore, my friends and I'd decided to rent a stall at Glebe Markets last Saturday. Extra cash and a cleared out wardrobe ready for new purchases? Yes please! It was our first time holding a stall, so we didn't really know what to expect, so below are some tips in case you're in the same position.

Market tips

- Don't display individual prices because people will ask anyway. Have an idea of the lowest price you would sell your items for.

- In saying that, if you're selling items for really cheap (i.e. $1 or $2), make signs and make sure they are noticeable to market goers walking by.

- Prepare to bargain (obvious, but necessary) and don't be shy about it.

- People love to rummage! Put a whole heap of skirts, tops and shorts into an old suitcase (you can sell it later) or box and it will attract shoppers.

- One girl's trash is another girl's treasure. Even if you think an item would never sell, take it anyway and put it in the rummage pile- chances are it will be sold.

- Bring water, a hat and sunscreen; they will save you from sun burn, sunstroke and dehydration. You will most likely be too busy to visit a food stall, so bring healthy snacks to keep you going.

- If there's more than two of you selling clothes in the same stall, the money part can get confusing. Put one person in charge of all transactions and try to separate your money. Also keep track of how much each person is making, so you can compare that sum with the amount of cash each person ends up with at the days end.

- Bring change - coins and small notes.

- Bring a decent sized mirror for your customers.

- Be ready for wet weather. Buy a tent that will fit your stall and have it as backup (make sure you can return it if you don't use it).

- If someone wants to go to the bathroom to try something on, ask for their licence to hold, which will be returned when they return with your clothes.

- Most of your customers will be market regulars, so just go with the(ir) flow.

- Have fun!

Keeping Fit with a Student Lifestyle

Whether you are living at home, on campus or with friends; as a student you probably have a somewhat restricted budget (and a busy schedule between assignments and work). But that shouldn't get in the way of keeping healthy and feeling good. Don't let those $1 chocolate bar sales get the best of you! Below are some tips on staying fit and healthy whilst on a student budget and living a student lifestyle.

1. Browse around for the best gym for your budget and stay away from locked in contracts. You never know when you might need to pull out, and be forced to keep paying.

2. Look for cheap outdoor group training classes. They pop up on websites like Groupon and Living Social.

3. Use the outdoors as your own gym - it's free and full of fresh air!

4. Invest in kitchen appliances like a blender and juicer (if you're living at home, offer to go halves or to pay a portion with your parents).

5. Don't give in to cheap junk food, just because it's cheap! Invest in lots of good, healthy items like veges, fruit and wholemeal bread that you can freeze.

6. Take part in free sports at your university. It's a good way to get some fitness into your day and meet new people.

7. Keep an eye out on sales at sports shops so you can grab some gym clothes or workout equipment cheaper! Sign up to their mailing lists to be the first to know about sales.

8. Shop at outlets for cheaper gym clothing... no one has to know!

9. If you are going to meet friends at a cafe or bar, eat a healthy meal before hand so you're not forced to eat unhealthy food. If you need to eat there, pick the healthiest item on the menu, and don't be afraid to ask for alterations to the meal. When we socialise and eat at the same time, we don't realise how much we actually eat- so be careful.

10. The most important thing to remember is that as a student you need to make wise decisions. You might be victim to late nights finishing (hopefully not starting) assignments, so you need fuel for your body that will keep you going, not give you a hit of energy then drag you down. Stay away from energy drinks, soft drinks and sugar filled foods. Drink lots of water, herbal teas and healthy meals that will give you sustained energy to get through your assignments and lead you to a restful nights sleep.

We all know a girl like Selena Gomez...

Breaks up with her boyfriend, publicly brags about it or dishes dirt on him (thanking social media for that one...), then a few weeks later they are back together and the man can do no wrong. You're thinking of someone, aren't you?

Two months later...

I love Taylor Swift's reaction to the awkward kiss.

But back to reality.. I mean not everyone can bag their exes on international television or go on dates in Las Vegas.

Social media makes it so, so easy to post a hateful status or upload a pic with a few nasty hashtags. But try not to! Take that time and energy and put it into something else. Maybe a new dress or lippy? Because you don't want to be that girl...

XX

p.s. But if you do want to be that girl.. well, you go girl.

Now Trending: Puffer Jackets?

Yes, puffer jackets. Take a look around in shops like Zara, Witchery, Seed, and also shops like Temt and Paper Scissors. PUFFERS, PUFFERS EVERYWHERE.
I only really became aware of it whilst looking for a really, really, reallyyy warm jacket to where in New York City in the coming February. I want to look good. I mean, it's NYC. But I get so cold so easily that it pains me! On advice from a friend, a puffer jacket would keep me warm blooded. Surprisingly, a puffer jacket can look quite good...

Left to Right: Seed, Witchery, Witchery.

Puffer Jackets, not just for George Costanza anymore.

Not a beauty post, but still beautiful

This year I blinged out the the Greek Easter eggs. Usually they are dyed red and left plain, or covered with colourful stickers. They are always pretty, but we wanted something different!

Tradition with a twist!

A bit about me

Lust have it! February Box

I realise that this post is a bit late, but if February wasn't such a ridiculously short month, then it would be right on time!
So Lust have it! have not failed this feb, the box is full of great products which I will definitely get use out of. The only semi-negative thing was that we didn't receive one of the collectible boxes this month, because all of the products wouldn't fit, and one of the products wasn't included because of size again. But the quality of the products definitely makes up for it.

First is the full size Summer Tan lotion. Now I haven't used it yet because I still have Le Tan spray tan on me, but I will be as soon as it's fully scrubbed off. Look how dark Summer Tan is!!! And it's a dark brown, not an orange... Tick! I will post a before and after of Summer Tan when I begin using it.

So Second is the Styli-Style L3 Timeless Lipstick, and mine is in the colour Heavenly. I LOVE this colour. I'm going to describe it as a peachy pink with a golden shimmer throughout. As you can see in the second photo below, the lipstick isn't highly pigmented, but it is a strong veil of colour, and the golden highlights shine through! It is really moisturising too! It feels like I am just wearing a lip balm.

So a few people out there might not agree with me, but I think this colour is great! There is no better time to wear it than now, when camouflage prints and colours are right on trend. I definitely recommend using a base coat (I use OPI Nail Envy) before applying the lacquer, because you don't want the dark colour to stain your nails.

Ok, so I LOVE anything to do with moisturising skin and mining youthfulness. A lot of people focus on the face, but we can't ignore the hands, neck and chest. Love these.

Thank you for reading lovelies.

Witchery AW13 Fashion Show Recap

My first proper fashion show!
If women that went to fashion shows all the time read this post, they would probably think that I am so not cool with writing what I am about to write, but I care less than when Kim Kardashian gains a new instagram follower. Wanna share some Kimmie?
But anyway, unlike about 70% of my life, this post isn't about the Kardashian/Jenners.

When my friend offered me a ticket, of course I couldn't turn it down. I love Witchery and David Jones and was excited to see who from the industry would be there.
It was in the beautiful room on level seven at DJs. It was my second time going up there and it didn't disappoint. I want to throw a huge celebration there! Oh and on the way up, in the elevator,I stood next to model Samantha Harris.
On arrival you were offered Sparkling mineral water or a glass of Te Hana sparkling wine or rosé. I took the rosé.
Who watches British reality show Made in Chelsea? My friend Briana died when we spotted Caggie Dunlop. After the show I took a photo of the two of them. Caggie looked so effortlessly good dressed in head to toe Witchery.

We snagged two seats in the second row, and the show began. Witchery's AW13 collection is tdf. Grey, black, leather, metallic with pops of colour here and there. And the printed pants!!!
Most of the female models were braless.. A trend? I'll keep for being lazy at home I think. But otherwise, I love it all.

And so I left Level Seven with a freebies bag (thank you Witchery, Napoleon Perdis and Te Hana), and a thrill. I loveddd it, absolutely loved it. I have always had an interest in the fashion and beauty industry, but it really did peak that night.

I can't wait for SFW!

List of what was worn by each model, in order.

What was in the goodie bag.

Thank you loves.

Birthday Freebies!

Even at a time when in-store retail is going down the drain, some amazing brands are still rewarding their customers with benefits.
I just recently celebrated my birthday and was happily surprised to receive gifts from a couple of my favourite brands... Mimco and Witchery!

If you're a mimco club member you receive $30 on your card to spend online or I store, and $20 from Witchery (both valid for one month). To some this may mean nothing, but I think it's a great way to get yourself a little gift and feel special!

From Mimco I decided to buy the large candle in Tuberose Empire. The box and candle glass are so pretty and it smells really good. The candle was $29.95 from $69.95.

From Witchery I bought a vanilla body creme. It smells delicious and contains shea butter, apricot and coconut oils. And even better, it's made in Australia!

So go out and become members! You also receive rewards when you spend certain amounts in-store and online.

The Beauty of Baby Oil!

Never thought that you'd be using baby oil in between being an actual baby and having one of your own? Think again!

I use baby oil mainly for three things.
1. Removing makeup! Perfect for removing stubborn eye makeup, without irritation (although every one is different so I can't guarantee it won't irritate)

2. Adding into into my home made body scrub. It leaves the skin so smooth.

3. Applying it to my legs after I shave... No red bumps! Ever since I started shaving my kegs in high school, I get little red bumps all over the sides of my legs, it didn't matter what razor I used or what type of shaving cream. Now I rub baby oil all over my legs after shaving and my legs are fine! Silky smooth and no bumps (it also doesn't sting when it goes on, like moisturisers do).

I bought my Johnsons and Johnsons oil from The Reject Shop for $3! And you get a lot in it.
A very affordable product to add to your beauty regime.

Lust Have It! January Box

So a couple of weeks ago I registered to receive a beauty box every month filled with random beauty and hair products, from the website www.lusthaveit.com.au. I was so excited when I found it whilst doing who-knows-what on the internet, because I had no idea that we had this service in Australia! And the best thing about it is that it is only $15 per month, and you do not have to be locked into a yearly contract!

If you haven't heard of these beauty boxes, what happens is that you pay a certain amount, and you receive a beautiful box filled with all different sorts of cosmetics all together valued at over whatever yo. With Lust Have It, you also receive points from ordering the monthly boxes, which you can spend on buying different (or more) products from their website! Lust have it had a few different types of boxes, but I really liked what was in the previous month's boxes, so I signed up for this one.

So this is just a little review of the January Box.

I LOVE the packaging. I will definitely be reusing these boxes, maybe stacking them all up.

Nude by Nature BB 5-in-1 Miracle Cream
When I swatched this I thought it was going to give a good coverage because it felt quite creamy, however on my face it was just like any other BB cream. It smells really natural and will be good to give some moisture and colour to my skin.

Face of Australia Bronzing Loose Powder
A nice medium coloured bronzing powder with a lot of shimmer. So I would use this on my check bones, and maybe on my chest, but not for contouring.

Lust have it! Kabuki Brush
So at first I thought it would be good to apply powder to the face, but today I used it to apply my foundation and it gave a really nice finish! Very happy with this brush.

GKMBJ Lactic hydrating shampoo and fortifying honey creme
These hair products are from a new range and are apparently tested and proven by qualified hairdressers, using high quality ingredients. I will definitely test them out once I am done with my current hair care routine. The smell is ok.

Amuse Nail Lacquer
I am not a very big lover of blue nail polish, so I won't be using this one. It is much more of a lighter, neon blue in person. I do like that the colour is very pigmented so you don't need multiply coats.

I definitely will be substring to February's Lust have it! box. Mainly because I just love not knowing what you're going to get (it's like having a birthday every month!), and I think that it is worth the $15!
